“Located at the corner of 44th Street and 6th Avenue in New York City, one block from Times Square, this flagship location for City National Bank was designed to evolve the modern banking experience into a more personalized interaction.”

Project

Summary

Elegant use of materials along with careful planning resulted in a space that differentiates the Bank architecturally and functionally in a saturated retail banking environment while reflecting the corporate identity and culture of City National Bank.

Previously a retail space with a partial mezzanine floor, the new design eliminated the mezzanine floor, creating a tall open banking level and deliberately creating an opening through the second floor, physically and visually connecting the users on both levels. A cantilevered glass and limestone stair, representing the Bank’s ladder logo and slogan, “The Way Up” was strategically placed below this opening, welcoming clients and visitors entering from the street to visit each of the Bank’s levels. A glass footbridge connects the office spaces on one side with the conference rooms and collaborative spaces on the lobby side.

The user-centered design maximizes daylight throughout the interior with glass office enclosures and meeting areas that yield comfortable, naturally lit spaces. A custom teller line was developed to offer clients a comfortable, relaxed, one-on-one personal banking experience, a critical design solution that directly reflects the culture of City National Bank from within and from observers on the street.
