TALKDesign Podcast Features Principal Daniel Lee

Lee recently joined Host Adrian Ramsay to explore design process and influences on his work at BCJ.

"I think that the journey is in the reveal... It's something that you've done that will create magic whether they ever notice it or don't notice it, it creates another feeling... I think that's actually one of the biggest joys of design."
Adrian Ramsay, TALKDesign Host

Daniel Lee, AIA, a principal in our Philadelphia studio, recently sat down with TALKDesign podcast host Adrian Ramsay for a conversation ranging from his earliest inspirations to recent projects at Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. Introduced to architecture by his father, also an architect, Daniel embarked on a journey in the field, gathering inspiration from childhood memories with family in Korea to his time at the University of California, Berkeley.

Daniel shares his experience with Blue Bottle cafés from the Bay Area to the East Coast; the process and precision, balanced by intuition and human spirit, translated into the brand’s minimalistic design and approach to a unique customer experience. Daniel and Adrian also explore the process of revitalization and adaptive reuse in a range of projects, including Apple stores in Covent Garden and a re-envisioned former bank building in New York’s Upper East Side, as well as our recently completed Philadelphia studio.

Listen to the podcast to learn more about his intuitive design approach, the benefits of balancing analog design and technology, the dialogue between client and architect, and how these have informed recent work in different typologies.
