Celebrating IIDA Norcal Honor Award Winners

Caymus-Suisun Winery, an experimental retail pilot for Cuyana, and the recently completed Pleasant Hill Library were recognized at IIDA’s 20th Anniversary ceremony in San Francisco.

We are honored to have several projects recognized at this year’s IIDA (International Interior Design Association) Northern California Chapter Awards, which celebrate new ideas and techniques in the design and furnishing of interior spaces. The ceremony took place at a new location for 2023– the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco.

Cuyana in Motion received an honor award in the Jewelbox category, a new addition to the awards this year. The project is the first application of the Toyota Agile Space concept, which rethinks the use and provisioning of underutilized real estate. Beginning with Cuyana, the flexible retail concept empowers brands to test new markets using a reconfigurable, easily movable framework.

Caymus-Suisun Winery received an honor award in the Play category. The project, which opened in early summer 2022, shifts the paradigm on the traditional, prescriptive approach to wine tasting by presenting a laid-back, resort-like pavilion for experiencing the wine and landscape of the Suisun Valley. With The Bureau and Geldert Studios, Cello Maudru, and other project collaborators, we created an immersive experience that celebrates the pioneering winemaking legacy of the Wagner family, honors local craft, and brings guests closer to the sights, sounds, and smells of the valley.

Pleasant Hill Library won an honor award in the Serve category. A welcoming and flexible public destination, targeting net zero energy, the project reflects the community’s desire to spark imagination, fuel potential, and connect people with ideas and each other. An expansive central hall with plentiful natural light, easily movable furniture, and diverse environments for youth, teens, and adults create a versatile and inviting community hub. Our practice collaborated with Swinerton Management and Consulting, BHM Construction, Einwiller Kuehl Landscape Architecture, Margaret Sullivan Studios, Rutherford & Chekene, Introba, Auerbach Glasow, Sherwood Engineers, and Etsuki Creative on the library.

In addition to the three honor award winners, our work for Genstar Capital was named a finalist in the Workplace category. Learn more about the projects below:
