Revitalizing Downtown Mesa with ASU’s MIX Center
At the 2025 SCUP Pacific Conference, project team members from Arizona State University, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, and Holly Street Studio will present the planning, implementation, and outcomes of the Media and Immersive eXperience Center.
With a range of theaters, soundstages, recording studios, and other immersive environments, the Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center provides a unique cross-disciplinary environment for the next generation of cinematic and digital storytellers at ASU. Since opening in 2022, the project has also established a new center of gravity in downtown Mesa, encouraging limitless creative expression and helping to catalyze new economic opportunities for residents, businesses, and visitors.
At the upcoming SCUP Pacific Conference at California State University, Monterey Bay (April 2-4), Michael Henderson, Senior Associate in our Seattle studio, Holly Street Studio Principal Diane Jacobs, and Dave Jack, a senior project manager at Arizona State University, will present the history of the project, strategies for both community and student engagement, and the process of choreographing sound, light, and vibration-sensitive environments with inviting, publicly accessible gathering areas. The 2025 SCUP Pacific Regional Conference theme, “Buoyancy in Higher Education,” explores how integrated planning practices can make campuses more buoyant within the ebb and flow of today’s institutional challenges.
