Presenting a Holistic Approach to Student Well-Being at the SCUP Mid-Atlantic Conference

Together with leaders from Carnegie Mellon University, we will share lessons learned in the planning and design of the Highmark Center for Health, Wellness and Athletics––a new model for integrated student health and well-being.

The new Carnegie Mellon University Highmark Center for Health, Wellness and Athletics will co-locate CMU’s University Health Services (UHS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS), Wellness Initiatives, Religious and Spiritual Life Initiatives, and Athletics, ensuring students have access to the support they need to thrive. The presentation will share how the process of creating an “Under One Roof” approach evolved, including key considerations from campus planning to identifying changing student needs. Kent Suhrbier, Principal in our Pittsburgh studio, will speak alongside Gina Casalegno, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Bob Reppe, Assistant Vice President and University Architect, and Utkarsh Ghildyal, Associate Director of Design, from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).

The 2023 SCUP Mid-Atlantic Conference theme is “Removing Barriers for a Limitless Reality,” which seeks to explore how colleges and universities are breaking down both the physical and intangible barriers that are impeding them from achieving their missions.
