Greenbuild 2024: A Holistic Approach to Student Well-Being at Gutmann College House
A featured Greenbuild Conference tour of Gutmann College House at the University of Pennsylvania will bring attendees through a varied program of landscapes, collaborative spaces, amenities, and more.
University of Pennsylvania, Gutmann College House was designed to promote the whole student, with flexible, dynamic living-learning spaces that encourage exploration and collaboration. Comprised of a residential tower and two five-story wings, the 250,000 GSF college house, the second designed by our practice for Penn, provides housing for 450 students. On Monday, November 11, join leaders from Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, Vanderweil Engineers, and Meliora Design, as well as the House Director for Gutmann College House, on an immersive walking tour of the project, exploring integrated building and site strategies that manage stormwater and improve local ecology, as well as those that directly support student well-being and enhance building performance.
A 2023 AIA Pennsylvania COTE (Committee on the Environment) award winner, Gutmann College House has been celebrated for illustrating “a holistic design that creates opportunities for community, individuality, and campus pride.” The tour will also include a visit to Quaker Kitchen, a unique approach to dining that offers hands-on culinary instruction within an intimate, residential-scale environment. A USGBC representative will meet attendees at the Philadelphia Convention Center at 1:00 pm to coordinate travel to the project site; the tour will run approximately 1:30 – 3:00 pm.
