Pabu Izakaya expands in Financial District

The restaurant will expand into the BCJ-designed glass pavilion across the plaza at 101 California.

Pabu Izakaya, the popular San Francisco Financial District restaurant from award-winning Chef Michael Mina, is expanding its presence at 101 California with a sake tasting room and private event venue. As the San Francisco Business Times notes, the “completely transparent kiosk space, prominently visible along California Street, will complement Pabu’s existing 22-seat bar.” The project is planned for completion later this year.

The design of the 770-square-foot pavilion was part of an overall revitalization of 101 California’s plaza and lobbies to create a more inviting and human-scale experience, provide flexible amenities for tenants and visitors, and continue the legacy of signature design at this iconic downtown location. A more open and inviting plaza redesign, accomplished with OJB Landscape Architecture, creates a sense of shelter for visitors and tenants to enjoy varied seating and gathering areas. The standalone retail pavilion and a new restaurant exterior and canopy at Pabu were integral elements of the revitalized plaza design.
