Harmony In The Woods and Gallatin Residence Receive AIA NEPA Design Awards

Harmony In The Woods, a performance venue and amphitheater, and Gallatin Residence, a Hudson Valley home, were honored at AIA Northeastern Pennsylvania’s award ceremony.

"Harmony In The Woods demonstrates elegant minimalism and a deep sensitivity to its natural setting. The design clearly considered the visitor experience from arrival through to the performance venue, creating a site-rooted civic work that blends seamlessly with the forest and topography."
2025 AIA NEPA Awards Jury

AIA Northeastern Pennsylvania chapter members and guests recently gathered at the historic Westmoreland Club in Wilkes-Barre, PA to celebrate projects from the region and beyond. We are excited to share that the jury recognized Harmony In The Woods with an honor award, while Gallatin Residence received an award of excellence.

Designed for Harmony Presents, a nonprofit focused on showcasing music and performing arts to the Pocono Mountain region and neighboring areas, Harmony In The Woods is an immersive music and performance stage and amphitheater nestled in a forested clearing in Hawley, PA. The project uses readily sourced materials to provide an elegant building the community can be proud of and enjoy. The stage structure uses durable Kebony, glulam and steel beams, and black-stained cedar walls. Opaque polycarbonate panels provide privacy for a backstage greenroom. Five tiers of amphitheater seating integrate stone sourced from a nearby quarry.

Set on a 100-acre former farm in the upper Hudson Valley, Gallatin Residence is a year-round gathering place for friends and family. The design respects the surrounding landscape through its scale, massing, and use of natural, unadorned materials. The upper level kitchen, dining, and living areas look out across the rolling landscape to views of the surrounding woodland and Catskills. The lower level sleeping areas rest at grade with the surrounding meadow, which was reseeded with native grasses to support a cohesive natural habitat. Exposed Douglas fir beams and slender steel columns support the slim roofline that extends to shelter outdoor gathering spaces. The AIA NEPA awards jury praised the project as “a masterful composition of form, material, and landscape integration.” Congratulations to our clients and collaborators – learn more about each project below.
