Auteur Russian River Featured in the San Francisco Chronicle
The new winery, enveloped by vineyards and with expansive views of the surrounding landscape, will open to guests on April 11.
"Perched on a hilltop in Healdsburg’s forested Russian River, a gorgeous new winery with a 50-foot-long wall of windows overlooks the region’s famed Westside Road, home to California Pinot Noir pioneers like Williams Selyem, Gary Farrell and Rochioli."
As Auteur Wines prepares for the official opening of its new Healdsburg tasting room in early April, the San Francisco Chronicle visited the space to explore the growth of this small-volume, family-owned business specializing in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. While Auteur will continue to operate its popular tasting room in downtown Sonoma, the new location will provide a visitor experience closely tied to its Russian River vineyards.
Our practice designed Auteur Russian River to feel warm and inviting, and to celebrate the surrounding vineyards, rolling hills, and Russian River valley beyond. As Chronicle Wine Reporter Jess Lander noted, “The focal point of the space — cloaked in a floor-to-ceiling patchwork of natural woods — is the view. The open concept interior is unfussy, sleek and warm with a charred redwood fireplace and several tasting nooks.” Along the south face of the building, a wall of windows provides sweeping views of the vineyards and lush green hills from every angle, while a sheltered outdoor terrace provides ample space for guests to gather in warm weather.
