Announcing A Long View: Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Houses 2016-2026

Our new monograph, A Long View, features a diverse collection of private residences from across the United States and Canada, and explores the continued evolution of our practice.

"The title of this new volume, A Long View, carries multiple meanings. It reflects our belief that architecture should connect us more viscerally to the natural world, as a lens for capturing both immediate and distant landscapes. It also describes our practice’s continued evolution, extending the arc of Peter Bohlin’s remarkable legacy with a new generation of design leaders."
Ray Calabro, FAIA, MRAIC, Principal

We are excited to announce the upcoming release of A Long View, our first residential monograph since 2015. Published by ORO Editions, A Long View will arrive in bookstores in November. The monograph explores BCJ’s award-winning residential design through the lens of fifteen homes across North America, sharing the story of how our work has evolved across a wider range of geographical regions and fresh material expressions, led by an emergent group of design voices within the practice who are carrying forward an ethos of humane, deeply collaborative design.

The homes presented in A Long View exist in diverse settings: from a rustic retreat in the wilderness of Ontario to the transformation of an existing Pittsburgh home into a container for light; a home embedded in a sagebrush-covered butte in Wyoming to a delicate wood framed guest cabin on a remote island in the Pacific Northwest. Each resonates within its unique circumstances of client, place, and material. Striking photography from some of the leading architectural photographers working today highlights the details of each project, while immersive drawings, diagrams, and sketches provide new insights into our design process.

A Long View also features insightful essays and contributions from leading design voices – including John Gendall, a New York-based writer and co-founder of the strategic communications firm Chapter; the design writer Lauren Gallow; Brent Buck, founder of Design Vanguard firm Brent Buck Architects; and Mike Albert, FASLA, a principal at Design Workshop and a longtime BCJ collaborator.

A Long View is now available for pre-order from ORO Editions via the link below.
