To address the desert climate of Arizona, the architects developed strategies to offset heat gain with minimal mechanical cooling loads that emphasized Apple's distinctive retail experience. The single story structure has wide eaves projecting along the building span to provide shade and make the interior more visible to passersby. A radiant floor system cools the interior. The floor appears to extend beyond the building, simultaneously giving respite from the sun and heat outside and forming the easily legible, uninterrupted ground plane that characterizes the visual simplicity of Apple Stores.
