Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Announces New Principal

November 16, 2009

Bohlin Cywinski Jackson is pleased to announce that Ray Calabro has been named a Principal in the firm.

"Ray has taken on more and more responsibility in the Seattle office as well as in firm-wide marketing and promotion activities," said Peter Bohlin, President and Founding Principal. "We look forward to having Ray's energy, creativity, and guidance contribute to the continued success of our practice as we move into the future."

Ray joined Bohlin Cywinski Jackson's Pittsburgh office in 1995 as part of the project team for the School of Fisheries Building at the University of Washington. Based in Seattle since 1999, Ray is responsible for leading the design and documentation efforts for several cultural facilities in the west including the Turtle Bay Exploration Park Visitor Center and Museum buildings in Redding, California. In 2001, Ray became project manager for the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center at the southern entrance to Grand Teton National Park in Jackson, Wyoming. Completed in 2007 the award-winning Visitor Center is recognized for its sophisticated use of heavy timber and engineered wood, the integration of interpretive exhibits by Ralph Appelbaum Associates, and innovative snow country and cold climate strategies.

Ray's interest in marketing, publications and awards materials led to his involvement in these activities for the Seattle office, and subsequently the entire firm. In 2008, he led the design and editing for Grand Teton: A National Park Building published in 2009, and is currently leading the publication efforts for Bohlin Cywinski Jackson: The Nature of Circumstance, a monograph on the firm's work to be published by Rizzoli in Spring 2010.
