Philadelphia's Renovated 30th Street Post Office is Awarded LEED NC2.2 Gold

February 3, 2012, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The 926,500-square-foot renovation of the 1935 historic Philadelphia Main Post Office into a modern office building accommodating 5,000 federal employees, has achieved USGBC NC2.2 LEED Gold certification. Developed by Brandywine Realty Trust with Keating Development and the University of Pennsylvania, the building, which forms with Amtrak's 30th Street Station the western gateway into Philadelphia, is a linchpin of the exciting redevelopment of University City now underway. The structure's full block, five-story, Art Deco-style Federal exterior and first floor lobby were restored to their original conditions. Its centerpiece is an atrium slicing through from the roof to the second level. The atrium's glazing reflects light deep into the building, animating the interior space, bringing in daylight and improving the quality of life for to its occupants. The renovation has won awards from 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania, Preservation Pennsylvania and other organizations.
